Yin yoga is a calm, slow and stilling practice. It consists of a series of long-held, passive floor poses that mainly work the lower areas of the body- the hips, pelvis, inner thighs and lower spine. These areas are especially rich in connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, fascia). It also focuses on the connective tissue that surrounds the joints, providing nourishment and circulation, increasing flexibility and elasticity. The elasticity of our connective tissue diminishes with physical activity and aging, which makes Yin essential for injury prevention and joint health.
By stressing the deep tissues of the body, Yin yoga can strengthen and harmonise the flow of Chi energy, bringing us back into balance and vitality.
The stillness and quietness of this practice creates a soothing and very valuable life space to balance the active pace of modern life, as well as other yang-like physical activities.
All levels welcome.
